Mo'Nique Show Set Decorator Murdered

The BET family is sad to report the death of Maureen Allaben, a set decorator for “The Mo'Nique Show,” who was allegedly killed by her husband in suburban Atlanta.

According to police, 46-year-old Dennis Allaben killed his wife, 43, wrapped her body in a tarp, stored her in the back of his blue Ford pickup truck and drove to Virginia to leave the couple's children with relatives.

As Allaben was driving back to Atlanta, his relatives contacted the DeKalb County Police to alert them of the situation.  Within hours Allaben turned himself in to police and confessed to the murder.

"He just showed up at [Clayton County] police headquarters and said he'd killed his wife," Acting DeKalb County Police Chief William O'Brien told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Allaben was arraigned in DeKalb County Court Wednesday night, charged with felony murder and ordered held without bond in DeKalb County Jail.

In a statement given to BET News, Mo'Nique said, “We are all saddened by Maureen's passing, but we also rejoice in having had the opportunity to know her sweet, soulful spirit. Live each day to the fullest."

In addition to her set decorator duties, Maureen Allaben was also a food stylist for several other clients including Atlantic Records, Turner Broadcasting, Home Depot and Olive Garden.
