Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Hospitalized With Infection

Suffering from an unknown infection, the conservative Justice is recovering with antibiotic medication.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is reportedly dealing with a severe infection, leading to the court’s oldest conservative judge to be hospitalized.

On Friday (March 18), Thomas, 73, was taken to the Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he is undergoing tests and treatments with intravenous antibiotics, ABC News reported.

According to Supreme Court spokesperson Patricia McCabe, Thomas is making a speedy recovery

"His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two," McCabe said. "Justice Thomas will participate in the consideration and discussion of any cases for which he is not present on the basis of the briefs, transcripts and audio of the oral arguments."

Not many details were given explicitly about Thomas' "flu-like" infection by McCabe, however, she did say his illness is not related to COVID-19, according to The Washington Post.

Thomas has received vaccination against coronavirus and has been boostered, according to Newsweek.

Starting from Monday to Wednesday, the court has several oral argument cases that Thomas does not plan on doing remotely.

He missed out on the arguments section at 10 a.m., but he plans on participating in the cases "on the basis of the briefs, transcripts, and audio of the oral arguments."

Thomas’ illness comes as the U.S. Senate began fout days of confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
