Greg Oden was arrested early Thursday after allegedly punching his ex-girlfriend in the face at his mother's home in Indianapolis.
According to the Associated Press, Lawrence, Indianapolis, police responded to the home at 3:30 a.m. and found the female victim on the sofa with blood on her face. A friend of the woman told officers that Oden had "punched her in the face." Oden reportedly told police that an argument "got out of control," and when he swung his arms trying to break free of two people holding him back, hit his ex-girlfriend.
Oden, 26, was taken into custody on two preliminary counts of misdemeanor battery and was still in Marion County Jail as of early Thursday afternoon at the time of the report. Oden's attorney, James Bell, declined to comment.
Plagued by injuries, the 7-0, 273-pound center has only played in 105 NBA games since being selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the first pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. Within that stretch, Oden has missed four full seasons (2007-08 and 2010-2013).
Oden last played for the Miami Heat this past season, averaging 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.2 minutes through only 23 games.
