Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens Launches Plan To Address Rising Rates Of Crime
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has released a plan to fight rising rates of crime in his city.
In Dickens' first State of the City address, he laid out a plan to combat violence in Atlanta, especially at nightclubs. According to published reports, crime in Atlanta in 2021 was higher than pre-pandemic levels.
Dickens said at the Georgia World Congress Center, “Nightlife is a significant part of who we are as a city but bad operators and bad patrons will be kept in line.”
His administration will invest in training nightclub owners and employees on de-escalating violence, responding to emergencies and administering first aid.

Dickens also broke news about the Affordable Housing Strike Force, which will create 20,000 units of affordable housing over eight years.
There is also the “Pothole Posse,” which was originally launched by former Mayor Shirley Franklin in the early 2000s, which is an initiative to fill 30 potholes a day.
Dickens won the Atlanta mayoral runoff election in December. He ran his campaign on the promise of bringing down crime rates and addressing affordable housing.
