Dr. Dre Is Donating Compton Royalties to Fund Arts Center
Earlier today, Dr. Dre called into Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show and made a huge announcement: That he’ll be donating all royalties from his new album to start a performing arts center in Compton.
"I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album," said Dre, who also revealed he’s working with Compton Mayor Aja Brown to complete the center.
Dre’s just as excited as we are to hear new music from him, the first in nearly a decade. Tonight, at 9 p.m. EDT and running until 12 a.m. EDT, the Doctor will be streaming Compton: A Soundtrack live and uncensored on Apple Music. Lowe will host a show this evening dedicated to Compton. When it comes out on Aug. 7, it’ll be available exclusively on the streaming service and iTunes.
Earlier this month on Dre’s Beats 1 show, called The Pharmacy, he talked about being inspired by the making of the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, which motivated him to get back into the studio. The album features a mix of old and new collaborators, including Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Xzibit and more.
