Jim Jones to Turn Classroom Into Makeshift Record Label
Jim Jones is going back to school.
As previously reported, Dipset’s Capo is scheduled to teach a six-week course, Music Business 101, to high school students through Entertainers 4 Education Alliance Inc starting today (April 27).
“I'm teaching the kids how to touch base with many facets of the music industry,” Jones told BET.com. “It's ran from an executive side of the label, it's ran from a label owner side, from the artist side and you know, a couple of in between things, lawyers, different things. I'm trying to turn the whole classroom into a makeshift label and put kids in different departments and things to focus on, so it should be fun.”
He continued, “There'll be a certain type of test or something. We'll focus on something for the last week, figure out what the kids gon have to do. I'm trying to let them figure out how they would market and promote a project if they had one.”
Jones, who studied at the Borough of Manhattan Community College for one semester, is also slated to lecture at Fordham University on the music business today at 6 p.m.
“I have no idea what I'm getting into at this lecture,” Jones shared. “I'm going in there with my brain open to certain things and I guess it'll be a lot of questions asked about the culture. I'm pretty good at articulating what I wanna say and hip-hop is all I've known all my life and music, it makes my money nowadays so I don’t think it’ll be that hard. I think me and the college kids’ll have a good ol time. I don’t think I need to be studying like it’s algebra. I think I’m pretty good with the music industry.” Class is in session.
