Pau Gasol Is Considering Extreme Measures Before the Olympics Because of Zika
Serena Williams and golfer Rory McIlroy are among the athletes raising issues about participating in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero due to the Zika virus.
But Pau Gasol's level of concern about Zika is much higher. Like...way higher and he's considering drastic measures because of it.
The Associated Press is reporting that the NBA All-Star center for the Chicago Bulls is saying that "freezing sperm is one of the measures I have to consider" if he's going to go ahead and represent his native Spain in the Summer Games.
Wow. He's serious.
Gasol's extreme considerations come a week after Olympics long jump champion Greg Rutherford said that he would freeze a sample of his sperm as well.
There have been many cases of Zika-infected women's infants being born with birth defects because of the mosquito-derived virus.
If Gasol, 35, is hellbent on playing in the Olympics and wants to start a family of his own, freezing his sperm might be the only option due to the Zika virus's onslaught in Brazil.
Drastic times call for drastic measures, right?
