Box Office: The Other Woman Topples Captain America

The girl-power comedy grosses $24.7 million.

Girl power is alive and well at the box office. The female-centric revenge fantasy film The Other Woman took the top spot this weekend, with $24.7 million in ticket sales. The film was able to unseat Captain America: The Winter Soldier from the top of the charts.

The comedy, which stars Cameron Diaz and marks the big-screen debut of Nicki Minaj, was driven by female audiences, which made up a whopping 75 percent of ticket buyers.

Meanwhile, Captain America, starring Chris EvansSamuel L. Jackson, and Scarlett Johansson, fell to second place after three weeks on top with $16 million.

Coming in third for the second weekend in a row was the Christian film, Heaven Is for Real, with an impressive $13.8 million gross. The faith-based film has crossed $50 million in domestic ticket sales.

Rounding out the top five were the animated move Rio 2 and Paul Walker‘s second-to-last film, Brick Mansions, which brought in $13.7 million and $9.6 million, respectively. RZA also stars in Brick Mansions.

Next week, highly anticipated period film Belle will take a bite out of the art-house audience while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will swoop into town and, in all likelihood, claim the throne.
