17-Year-Old Shoe Store Employee Fatally Shot Over a Pair of Jordans

Here's why Corey Harris-Thomas's mother is warning other teens.

A 17-year-old was fatally shot while engaging in the sale of a pair of $140 Air Jordan sneakers in Detroit.

Corey Harris-Thomas — who worked at a shoe store — was shot and killed just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The teen would buy sneakers at a discount and sell them for a profit. Corey was contacted on Craigslist for the shoes; however, during the meet up, something went wrong, said police.

During the sale, Corey met up with a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old. An altercation ensued and one of the men pulled out a gun and shot Corey two times.

Corey’s parents were devastated by the tragedy and would like to warn other teens to listen to their parents’ advice.

“We told him not to sell the shoes, keep them for yourself. We show him these stories all the time and that would be my son,” Corey’s mom, Deidra Thomas, said to Fox 2.

Police say the suspect in custody is a 19-year-old man, yet no names have been released.

The other passenger in the car with the 19-year-old was also shot. However, his condition is unknown.

GoFundMe page has been set up to help Corey's family pay for funeral expenses.
