Listen to A Tribe Called Quest’s Jazzy Remix of 'Footprints'
After the overwhelmingly positive reception they got from Pharrell’s remix of “Bonita Applebum,” A Tribe Called Quest is back with a different reworking of a classic track. This time it’s for “Footprints” and features Cee-Lo Green.
The Goodie Mob member explained to The FADER, who debuted the track today, how his group and the Queens collective have always been musically inseparable.
"How was it possible to be so varied, strange, unique, interesting and dope?” he asked. “Then ‘Can I Kick It’ and ‘Bonita Applebum’ guaranteed that a brave new world was upon us. I am me, by way of many things, and one them is A Tribe Called Quest."
Tribe’s latest effort will be one of three remixes slated to make their forthcoming 25th anniversary re-release of People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. The final one is an intriguing tribute to “Can I Kick It,” produced by J. Cole.
The album is completely remastered from original tapes used to create the classic 1990 LP. Grammy-award winning engineer Bob Power will have a heavy hand in the release, which is slated to be the first in a series of re-issues scheduled in the coming years. “Footprints,” unlike “Can I Kick It” and “Bonita Applebum,” was not a single when it was originally released.
