Court Bans 4-Year-Old Maleah Davis' Mother And Stepfather From Contacting Their Children

Darion Vence's 1-year-old has been removed from his custody.

After an emergency hearing on May 8, a court order was issued banning missing 4-year-old Maleah Davis’ mother, Brittany Bowens, and stepfather, Darion Vence, from having any contact with their son or any of the mother's other children.

During the hearing Wednesday morning, the court ordered Maleah’s 1-year-old half-brother to stay with his paternal grandmother, while Maleah’s older brother, 5, was placed in the custody of his paternal aunt, reported KHOU 11.

If Maleah is found alive, she will also be placed with her paternal aunt.

  • Police say Darion Vence changed his story several times about the events leading up to her disappearance.

Vence and Maleah’s mother were given the court order the day before their family car, that Vence claimed was stolen by “kidnappers,” was discovered in a Missouri City parking lot.

Last August, Child Protective Services took temporary custody of Maleah after she suffered a head injury that resulted in a seizure. At the time, Maleah was living with her mother, stepfather and grandmother Brenda Bowens.

According to KHOU 11, the child was only taken to the hospital after Brenda urged the parents to seek medical treatment for Maleah’s injuries.

At the hospital, Bowens and Vence told doctors Maleah “fell off a chair,” but the doctors believed their story didn’t match her injuries.

Even though the doctors said they suspected Maleah was the victim of abuse, a judge returned Maleah to Bowens and Vence just a few months later.

This most recent court order removing all children from Vence and Bowen’s custody came at the suggestion of Brenda Bowens and the Department of Family and Protective Services.

Brenda is still allowed to see the children.
