EXCLUSIVE: LaLa Anthony's Advice For Being A 'Hot Mom' & Why She Was A No-Show At The MET Ball
LaLa Anthony is one of the most versatile faces in the biz. The talented actress currently has roles on hit shows, Power and Star, has a number of hosting gigs under her belt, slays the red carpet every single damn time and does it all while being a mom. So it’s no wonder why ARM & HAMMER™ Baking Soda has teamed up with her to show other moms how the not-so-basic household product makes her life a little easiser, not to mention more environmentally friendly.
According to a new survey, on average, Americans use about half or less of the cosmetic (53%), cleaning (51%), and hair products (44%) they have at home. As a result, valuable storage space is likely being used for things that are often forgotten. Baking Soda, believe it or not, is one of the safest multiuse and versatile products that has more than 100 DIY solutions. And to make things better the brand has just partnered with TerraCycle to give their plastic pouches a second life through recycling.
BET Style caught up with LaLa on why she swears by baking soda, Mother’s Day plans and why she was a no-show at the MET Gala this year:
BET: We’re here at the Arm & Hammer House learning all the unbelievable uses for baking soda, so what’s the most random way you ever used it?
LaLa Anthony: For slime. Cause now I have a 11-year-old who’s into that and is making a mess of my house, but to know that he’s like ‘Mom, I’m using baking soda to make slime’…I don’t know how or who thought of that but it works. I’m reading all about a lot of these products these kids use to make the slime and they’re not safe. So it’s good to have something that you already have in the house, that's safe and you don’t have to worry.
B: Speaking of being a mom, what are your Mother’s Day plans?
LA: I’m going to Atlanta. My cousin’s graduating. It graduation season. So I’ll be out there with my family. But Sunday I just want to be with my fam and chill with my son, Kiyan (Anthony). You know when you work so much and are always on the move, the thought of doing nothing is such a great idea. So if I could just chill and be with them, I’ll be good.
B: Earlier this year you posted about you tracked down all of Carmelo’s jerseys for a sweet birthday gift for Kiyan. That was a pretty ‘ultimate mom’ move. How hard was it that, tracking down all those jerseys?
LA: Some so hard and some came after. So it’s two frames now cause six came after. And it takes a while to track them down or have them replicated, but it’s a cool gift for him to always have for his whole life, every single jersey his dad (Carmelo Anthony) has ever worn. I was excited about it and he was super happy with it.
B: You are the Queen of the thirst trap, but you’re also a mom. Any advice for other moms on how to stay a ‘hot mom’?
LA: It’s just a feeling. Feel confident, feel good about yourself. Don’t be afraid to take chance or what other people are going to say like, ‘You shouldn’t be wearing that cause you're a mom.’ Do what makes you feel good and f**k what anybody thinks or says.
B: Where were you during this year’s MET Gala? We missed you!
LA: I was taking a break this year. (laughs) Yeah, just taking a break. I’ve been I think six years in row now. Also I’ve been working a lot. I have a bunch of different projects so I was working. BUT I had to convince myself that taking a break was okay otherwise I would have miserable that I wasn’t there, and working. I really wanted to like shoot myself (laughs) but I had to understand that work comes first. I’ll be back again next year and I really want to shut it down. But this year was amazing! I looking just like everyone else, from work with the sad face, but so happy to see my friends on the carpet killing it.
B: We saw you posted a #TBT from your epic look at last year’s gala!
LA: Yeah, last year was good! So I gotta come back next year. I gotta come back strong!
B: Who were your MET favorites this year?
LA: I loved Rihanna’s look. I thought it was amazing. I loved Stella Maxwell in the Jeremy Scott dress. Cardi B, I think she looked great. Nicki Minaj was amazing. I had so many people I loved there. Those were my faves that stood out. Jasmine (Sanders), Golden Barbie, wearing H&M was amazing. And Kim (Kardashian), of course! She just killed it with the hair, the makeup, the dress—everything was just so perfect.
