The FBI Collects Zimmerman’s Case Evidence
Authorities in Sanford, Florida, confirmed Monday that they have turned over all the evidence from their investigation of the Trayvon Martin shooting to the FBI, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
The evidence collection was part of the Justice Department’s investigation to determine whether federal prosecutors should file civil rights charges against Zimmerman. The gun Zimmerman used to shoot Trayvon was also included in the shipment.
Last week Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder of Trayvon. While many protested the verdict and spoke out against “stand your ground” laws; groups like the Buckeye Firearms Foundation in Ohio are raising money to help Zimmerman replace his gun.
Separately, Zimmerman and a friend helped rescue four people from an overturned vehicle last week, according to the Associated Press.
