The Glow Up!: Issa Rae Just Became The Newest CoverGirl Model
It's shaping up to be a major week for Black beauty. First, muva Pat McGrath kicked off fashion week with a celeb-studded party to celebrate her first full line of makeup. Then Rihanna dropped Fenty Beauty, which includes a jaw-dropping 40 shades, including many variations of deep hues, designed to cater to every human on this green earth. Now news has surfaced that Issa Rae is the new face of CoverGirl!
Above, you can see our first look at Issa as the newest CoverGirl model alongside other Black queens, including Brandy, Queen Latifah, Eva Marcille, Lana Ogilvie and Janelle Monáe. Issa looks amazing. And, really, who could be better for the job than her?
Her creativity has fostered one of the most radical, incisive and brilliant modern-day dramedies (that would be drama plus comedy!) concerning navigating relationships — both platonic and romantic. The quality of her art speaks to her overall dopeness as a person. And that makes her beautiful not only on the outside, but illuminates her from the inside as well.
Whereas the new trend in beauty branding seems to be aligning with beauty vloggers, which CoverGirl has done in the past, the decision to pick someone as dynamic as Issa is one we're grateful for.
“My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona — whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life,” Issa said in a press release. “Becoming a COVERGIRL means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways. This has been a major part of my personal journey, and a message that I want to share with others.”
Though Issa on Insecure's story left off with her continuing to be messy as hell, IRL Issa is now a bona fide model! Shout out to CoverGirl for choosing one of our favorite Black creatives to be the face of its brand.
We can't wait to see Issa's easy, breezy, beautiful face all over CoverGirl's new campaigns! F**k it up, sis!
