Damian Lillard Files For Divorce From Wife Kay’La Hanson After 2 Years of Marriage

They married in 2021 after dating for 10 years, and share three children together.

Another couple has called it quits. Damian Lillard and his wife Kay’La Hanson are getting a divorce.

On Monday (October 2), the NBA star filed for divorce from Hanson at the Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon, as reported by PEOPLE. They share three children: 2-year-old twins Kalii and Kali and a 5-year-old son named Damian Jr.

According to Willamette Week, the divorce filing cites “irreconcilable differences” between the Lillards that “caused the irremediable breakdown of their marriage.” The document also points out that the mom of three moved out of their $7.7 million home in Portland in December 2022, while Lillard remained a resident at the home.

News of their separation comes days after Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks after being with the Portland Trail Blazers for 11 seasons. According to PEOPLE, Lillard attended a welcome rally hosted by his new team with their twins, but Hanson was noticeably absent.

Lillard and Hanson first met at Weber State University. They dated for 10 years, then exchanged vows in September 2021. Days after they tied the knot, the now separated couple opened up to Ebony on the depth of their love.

"I knew Kay'La was the one a long time ago. When we were in college she took care of me. She had the car, an apartment and bent over backwards for me. Kay’La accepted me with all my flaws as a young man," said the athlete.

For Hanson, the special spark for her was how well he could co-exist with her star sign.

"I knew Damian was the one once I realized he could handle my crazy attitude. I'm a Scorpio. I’m a very passionate and strong-willed person who can easily get stuck in my ways” she shared. “I needed a man I could feel comfortable leading me in all areas and Damian is the man I trust with my life. He’s always cool, calm, and protective.”
