Rutina Wesley to Play Rwandan Genocide Survivor
This year is turning out to be a big one for actress Rutina Wesley. Not only are True Blood fans salivating over the start of its newest season later this month, but Rutina is making moves beyond the cult favorite that’s made her a star. Deadline.com reports that Wesley is set to star in the film Left to Tell, a biopic about Immaculee Ilibagiza.
The movie will be based on Ilbagiza’s best-selling memoir, which depicts how her life was tragically transformed by the 1992 Rwandan genocide. Ilibagiza and seven other women spent 91 days huddled together in silence while hiding out in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor's home. She entered the bathroom at 115 pounds and left the room only weighing 65 pounds. She soon learned that much of her family had been slaughtered. In addition to securing this role, Wesley recently starred in How She Move, which was acquired during Sundance, and the indie film California Winter.
