Michael B. Jordan's Response to Offensive Fantastic 4 Question
Again, Fantastic 4 star Michael B. Jordan had to explain how he plays opposite a white woman.
In a recent radio interview in Atlanta, Jordan and co-star Kate Mara were grilled about the "obvious" question of their roles as on-screen brother and sister, Johnny and Sue Storm.
"But you're white and you're Black. How does that happen?" Rock 100.5 Morning Show's Southside Steve asked.
Even after years of tabloid stories about Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Charlize Theron's blended families, not to mention the diversity of African DNA, and Hollywood movies like The Blind Side. And nevermind that the discussion is about a character who flies and shoots fireballs.
Jordan answered, anyway. "They could be raised as brother and sister," he told Steve. "I mean, there's a whole bunch of different family dynamics that could be without the 'obvious' adoption."
He went into more depth earlier this year, months before the film's release, via an open letter.
"This is a family movie about four friends... who are brought together by a series of unfortuate events to create unity and a team," he wrote.
"That's the message of the movie, if people can just allow themselves to see it. ... Get your head out of the computer. Go outside and walk around. Look at the people walking next to you. Look at your friends' friends and who they're interacting with. And just understand this is the world we live in. It's okay to like it."
Fantastic 4 opens August 7.
