Jackie Collins, Best-Selling Novelist Dies at 77
Jackie Collins, the best-selling novelist whose depictions of Hollywood glamour had millions addicted to her books, has died. She was 77 years old.
"It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today," her family said in a statement.
Collins was most popularly known for her 1983 book, Hollywood Wives, which sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. Nearly a dozen of her titles have been adapted into screenplays and her words, translated into some 40 languages.
"She lived a wonderfully full life and was adored by her family, friends and the millions of readers who she has been entertaining for over 4 decades. She was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force. She will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words," the family statement continued.
Though Collins was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly seven years ago, she chose to keep her illness private and remained productive until her final day. Her last book, The Santangelenos, was published this past June.
