Drake is in rare form these days. Maybe it's starting a new label, the pressure of making a third album, or all the other big rap releases out in the last two months — Kanye West, Jay Z, Wale, Mac Miller and J.Cole — either way, the king of OVO Sound is in a new creative zone that's working very well for him.

Early Thursday (Aug. 1) Drizzy rolled out his latest, "All Me," featuring 2 Chainz and Big Sean. Before the beat even kicks in, a sample of comedian Aziz Ansari's "No more free Randy!" line sets things off. Clearly, Drake's no longer interested in negotiating a position on the music totem pole, he wants the top spot: "Came up, that's all me/Stayed true, that's all me/No help that's all me, all me for real."

2 Chainz delivers a typical albeit fitting verse before Drake jumps back in, and Sean momentarily steals the show. Like his Canadian counterpart, the Detroit rapper has some issues to get off his chest. After a swift nod to girlfriend Naya Rivera ("My new girl is on Glee and s---, probably making more money than me and s---"), the G.O.O.D. Music rhymer delves into his demons. "I got trust issues, I'm sorry for the people I pushed out/I'm the type to have a bullet-proof condom and still gotta' pull out/That's just me and I ain't perfect/ I ain't a saint, but I am worth it."

Drake brings the record to a close gliding through his well perfected rap-to-song routine.

If the handful of records he's released thus far are in line with the entire album, any potential rap rivals might want to rethink their plans.

Nothing Was the Same is out Sept. 17.
