Terrelle Pryor Appeals Five-Game Suspension

Commissioner Roger Goodell dinged Terrelle Pryor the same number of games he would have been suspended had he remained a student-athlete at Ohio State.

After initially saying he would not appeal his five-game NFL suspension, Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor did just that Thursday.

Pryor’s representatives, including agent Drew Rosenhaus, met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for more than an hour to discuss the appeal, according to ESPN.com. Pryor was not present at the meeting.

For some the appeal may come as a surprise, but the only shocking issue here is why wasn’t this appealed right after Pryor was drafted in the third round of last month’s NFL supplemental draft?

Clearly, Goodell handed down the suspension to Pryor based on his actions in college and not as a professional athlete. There is definitely a dangerous and way too far-reaching precedent being set if this appeal isn’t overturned.

Pryor, who would have been a senior at Ohio State this fall, was set to be suspended for the first five games this season because he was part of a tattoos-for-memorabilia scandal last year.

Pryor has since been implicated in much more serious violations, which led to his coach stepping down and Pryor leaving school and declaring eligibility for the NFL supplemental draft this past summer.

It is unclear when a decision on the appeal will be made.
