Community and controversy seem to go hand in hand. TMZ is reporting that Chase used the N-word during filming of the show yesterday while ranting about the direction of the show.

Sources on the set said the Saturday Night Live veteran was complaining about the progression of his character, Pierce Hawthorne, whom he feels has grown too bigoted over the years. Chase was reportedly uncomfortable with the material he was given and felt slighted that his past criticisms about the writing have been ignored.

Chase reportedly yelled out in frustration, “What’s next? Am I gonna say the word n***er?”

The comment was not directed toward the show's African-American cast members Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown. Chase immediately apologized to Community’s entire cast and crew, and production on the show was not interrupted.

This marks Chase’s second Community rant. He left an expletive-filled voicemail for show creator Dan Harmon, who was later ousted from his own series.
