Juicy J's Twerk Scholarship Faces Boycott
After deleting his tweet announcing a $50,000 scholarship for the best display of twerking, Juicy J has made it official via a partnership with WorldStarHipHop.com, and it's raising the ire of the Hip Hop Liberation Army. "I think it's degrading, especially for black women," the Army's leader, Seeka the Teacha, told Militant Minded Radio as reported by Eurweb.com.
"I'm giving away a $50,000 scholarship, no bulls---, $50,000," confirmed Juicy in a video posted to WSHH, before adding in his album promotion. "Listen to 'Scholarship' featuring A$AP Rocky off of my album, Stay Trippy, to get some inspiration," he said. He then requested that it become viral: "Make sure you share your videos on Facebook and Twitter, " he said.
Teacha said the applicants would be "embarrassed" when they go to school. "Why would you want to get a scholarship for that when there's a lot of intelligent women out here who use their brains? Why don’t you give them some money?...I know Juicy J [is] probably sittin' back laughing at all the women that's gonna come and shake they a-- for this money," she said.
Her colleague Abeena Afreeka chimed in with a call for a boycott. "As women, for starters, I believe it is imperative for us to come out in strong opposition to the CD, to the message, and begin to actively work to get in the ears of our young sistren."
