Pop Smoke's Family Pushing Investigators to Find His Killers
The death of 20-year-old Pop Smoke, born Bashar Barakah Jackson, came as a devastating blow to the hip-hop community.
But no one has been hit harder by the tragic news than his family, who has since made their way to the West Coast in search of the truth behind the Brooklyn rap star’s fatal shooting, according to TMZ. The site reports that sources close to the case said that Pop Smoke’s loved ones immediately flew to L.A. from the East Coast after they learned of his passing to remain hands-on with the investigation.
His family members reportedly took it upon themselves to personally speak to the “Welcome to the Party” rapper’s friends and witnesses who were allegedly at the house prior to the shooting. The report further stated his family wants to review surveillance footage of the property with hopes it will provide evidence that could point to more possible leads.
Furthermore, TMZ’s source said his family was not aware of anyone on the West Coast who would’ve posed a threat to Pop before Tuesday’s incident. Thus far, they have ruled out that anyone from New York could’ve been behind the attack either, as it's unlikely that anyone would have followed him to L.A.
Initially, multiple reports held that Pop lost his life in a home invasion robbery. However, new details about the attack have since emerged that points to a different scenario. On Thursday (Feb. 20), TMZ reported that there is surveillance footage that supports suspicions that he may have been targeted in a coordinated attack. Four masked men reportedly invaded the Hollywood Hills home he was staying at but did not appear to have taken any items with them when they fled the premises after they shot and killed the 20-year-old.
Pop Smoke was reportedly in L.A. to promote his new mixtape, Meet the Woo 2, and was supposed to go on tour in March. BET continues to send its prayers, love and light to the family of Bashar Jackson during this time.
