Swizz Beatz Speaks Out on Megaupload Case

The hip hop super producer says he's in the business of inspiring.

Swizz Beatz found himself at the center of the international piracy case against Megaupload when attorneys from the United States Department of Justice used his titular status as CEO of the Hong Kong based company to bring charges against it in the U.S. Now, for the first time, Beatz is speaking out about the case and his relationship with Megaupload.

“I’m a fan of people that work hard and I would never be a part of anything that’s taking anything from an artist when I fight so hard to give so much to the artist,” he said in a recent interview with Al Lindstrom. “What I was doing was giving the artist 90 percent of they sh-t, you know what I’m saying? And sometimes when something is so powerful and people can’t control it, that type of attack happens."

Swizz pointed out that Megaupload had never been sued prior to being shut down by the feds in January. Despite that fact, the DOJ alleges that the file-sharing website cost labels upwards of $500 million in lost revenue.

“There’s other companies doing things 10 times worse things than that and they ain’t being touched,” Swizz said. “My thing is like, time will tell everything. People will see what’s what and who’s who, all of this sh-t here.

"My track record speaks for itself," he continued. “I’m in the business of inspiring and I can’t be in the business of inspiring if I’m so-called ‘robbing my friends,’ you know what I’m saying? And my friends know that, that’s why ain’t nobody spoke out and said no clown sh-t about me. They know my character and they know what it is.”
