Issa Rae Confirms ‘Insecure’ Won’t be Returning for a Reboot
Issa no for an “Insecure” reboot according to co-creator and star Issa Rae.
During a recent appearance on the “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero, the Golden Globe-nominated actress made it clear she has no intention of revisiting the lives of Issa, Lawrence, Molly, and the rest of the beloved cast members, citing her deep personal connection to the project.
“No, because it’s so personal to me,” Rae explained, comparing it to the work of HBO’s Larry David, co-creator of “Seinfeld” and the long-running “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
“Nobody else can do ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ ‘cause that’s his s—t and his gripes,” she said. “So, I would almost feel like, ‘The f—k?’ It would feel like the AI voice of Beyoncé—no, that’s my s—t, and those were my experiences.”
Rae added, “If they wanted to create something new, then sure, but no, I have no desire for an Insecure reboot.”
“Insecure” ran from 2016 to 2021. Praised for its raw, authentic depiction of Black millennial life, the show captivated audiences and critics, garnering multiple Emmy nominations and earning Rae a Peabody Trailblazer Award.
