Sordid Details Behind This 23-Year-Old CO's Sexual Relationship With an Inmate That Resulted in a Child

Here's the plea deal Deenesha Lemandy Carter accepted for her sexual assault charge.

A former corrections officer in Georgia accepted a plea deal after being charged for sexual assault on an inmate and violating her oath as a public officer.

Deenesha Lemandy Carter, 23, admitted she engaged in “sexual contact" with Walter Lee Harris, an inmate serving a life sentence for murder at Central State Prison of Macon. According to prosecutors, Carter gave birth to a child by Harris, reported The Telegraph.

Carter admitted to having "sexual contact" with Harris, prosecutors said in court during the plea hearing. It was later found that Carter became pregnant and gave birth to a child by Harris.

Carter and Harris’s relationship was discovered in March when a warden learned that the inmate had a cellphone and was having phone conversations with the corrections officer. Carter was indicted in May 2017.

As part of the plea deal Carter accepted on Monday, she was sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine. She also must give up her Peace Officer Standards and Training certification and is barred from holding a job in law enforcement while she’s on probation.

Before Judge Howard Simms announced the sentence, he asked Carter: “Why?

She responded, “I’m young and I made a mistake.”
