The “King of Pop” was an international household name, and he made an even bigger name for himself when he was invited to the White House on May 14, 1984. 

Dressed in a military style jacket given to him by an elevator operator and blacked out aviator shades, Michael Jackson visited the then home of President Ronald and Nancy Reagan. It was his first trip to the White House as he was there to receive the Presidential Humanitarian Award for his support to the White House program against drunken driving and alcohol and drug abuse.

Jackson’s White House appearance brought in a slew of reporters in addition to bringing out President Reagan’s humorous side: "I haven't seen this many people since we left China," Reagan said in regards to the swarm of journalists on hand for Jackson’s visit.

While Reagan kept the crowd entertained, the ever shy and humble Jackson only said one sentence the entire brief visit: "I'm very, very honored. Thank you very much, Mr. President and Mrs. Reagan."
