Samuel Jones is a retired basketball player known for his quickness and game-winning shots, particularly in the midst of NBA playoff games. He was selected by the Boston Celtics in the 1957 NBA Draft and spent his entire 12 season professional career with the team.
He has the second-highest number of NBA championships of any player, second to his teammate Bill Russell. Over his career, Jones was a five-time NBA All-Star and 10-time NBA champion.

Jones was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on June 24, 1933, and graduated from North Carolina Central University after a stunning career at the college.

His perfect form when shooting a jump shot, along with his great clutch shooting, led opponents to nickname him "The Shooter." At 6-foot-4, Jones was the prototype of the tall guard who could run the floor, bang the boards and had a rangy offensive game that gave opponents fits.

After retiring in 1969, Jones coached at Federal City College, North Carolina Central University and served as an assistant for the NBA's New Orleans Jazz. In 1984, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and in 1996 he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. Jones was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
