The White House Does Not Serve Crack Pie

President Obama makes a questionable joke about the White House pastry chef's skills.

What is it about crack that makes people equate something so bad with things that are so good?

One hip New York City restaurant, Momofuku, features a rich, salty-sweet pie with an oat cookie crust that is famously named Crack Pie. And according to President Obama, the pies served at the White House also are so good the addictive (and illegal) substance comes to mind.

Speaking at a Pride Month celebration at the White House Monday night, the president, in a tribute to outgoing executive pastry chef Bll Yosses, made the analogy.

"This is the problem. We call Bill the 'Crustmaster' because his pies I don't know what he does, whether he puts crack in them, but --," the president joked as the crowd laughed.

But a not-so-amused First Lady Michelle Obama immediately shot that suggestion down.

"No, he doesn't," she said. "There is no crack in our pies."

Still, the president clearly got hooked on them during his first year at the White House.
"My cholesterol shot up," Obama said. "And the doctor was like, what happened? ... And I thought, it's the pie! It's the pie!"
