Disney Dreamers Academy Application Deadline Approaching
The 2013 Disney Dreamers Academy, hosted by Steve Harvey, Essence magazine and Walt Disney World Resort, is accepting applications from teens until Oct. 31.
Now in its sixth year, the program offers 100 young people ages 13 to 19 the opportunity to travel to Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, to receive mentoring from Disney experts, world-renowned entrepreneurs and executives in a range of imaginative career fields.
“Disney Dreamers Academy gives hope and inspiration and exposes youth to a world of possibilities," Harvey said. "The sixth year of this program will prove to be the best yet. We are excited about another opportunity to transform lives and give students an inside look at what their future can hold.”
The Dreamers Academy launched in 2007 and helps students explore their options by providing a series of career workshops, networking events and motivational seminars. Participants will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort and will be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“It was honestly the most inspirational four days of my entire life,” 2012 Disney Dreamer Robert Jackson told BET.com. “I left with the mindset to inspire others, and I began going to elementary schools and middle schools to talk about the importance of dreaming big.”
Jackson’s own dreams took him from Houston to New York City where he is now a freshman, studying acting, at New York University.
“I’d always been ambitious, but [Disney Dreamers] really allowed me to push toward accomplishing my dreams,” Jackson says. “I definitely recommend anyone in grades 9-12 apply to the Disney Dreamers Academy because it’s a life-changing experience.”
