The multiple, deadly wildfires in California have caused immense amounts of devastation for everyone in the state. Despite the toll the natural disaster took on the region, President Trump still took the time to callously tweet about the “gross mismanagement of the forests” in California and he even threatened to withhold vital federal funding to help fight the blaze.

On Saturday, Trump said there is “no reason” for the “costly forest fires” and blamed the state government and firefighters on the destruction. 

People in California, which is home to many of the country's biggest stars, took great offense to the president's remark. Ava DuVernay, Don Cheadle, Sarah Silverman, Katy Perry and Billy Eichner were among the celebrities who slammed the president for the tweet. 

While the White House press office did not comment on the president’s tweet, firefighters in the state also checked the president. 

The president of the California Professional Firefighters criticized President Trump for not only demeaning the victims in the state but also threatening to withhold aid.

"The president's message attacking California and threatening to withhold aid to the victims of the cataclysmic fires is ill-informed, ill-timed and demeaning to those who are suffering as well as the men and women on the front lines," CPF President Brian Rice said in a statement.

“Wildfires are sparked and spread not only in forested areas but in populated areas and open fields fueled by parched vegetation, high winds, low humidity and geography," Rice said.

"Moreover, nearly 60 percent of California forests are under federal management, and another two-thirds under private control. It is the federal government that has chosen to divert resources away from forest management, not California,” he added.
