Family Files $4 Million Lawsuit After Son Was Shot In Neighbors’ Yard
The family of a 6-year-old Michigan boy who was shot while in his neighbors’ yard has filed a lawsuit against the neighbors.
According to TMZ, Coby Daniel’s father, Arnold, is seeking more than $4 million in damages. Documents obtained by the outlet reveal that Arnold claims his son is having a hard time recovering from the incident, which has also resulted in costly medical bills.
In June, Coby was hit in the arm while attempting to get his bicycle from outside the home of Ryan Le-Nguyen and Michael Inhmathong. Le-Nguyen is accused of opening fire on the child after running after him with a sledgehammer. Arnold says his son is still experiencing physical and emotional trauma from the shooting and will likely need counseling.
“He tried hitting me with a sledgehammer but that’s not going to work because I’m too fast,” Coby told WJBK after the incident. “[He] got a gun and BOOM shot me right here.”
Arnold alleges that Le-Nguyen exhibited “aggressive behavior” toward a number of kids prior to the shooting. This time, Arnold says Le-Nguyen was mad that Coby and his friend left their bikes on the sidewalk in front of the house.
“Right now, he’s not even processing what happened,” Arnold told WJBK in June. He doesn’t realize how close he came to not being here… But I realize it.”
