Gucci Mane Pleads Guilty to Gun Possession
Gucci Mane pleaded guilty in court Tuesday (May 13) to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, TMZ reports.
The charge against the Atlanta rapper, whose birth name is Radric Davis, carries a maximum 10-year sentence and $250,000 fine. He reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty in exchange for 36 months of prison time, with 10 months' credit for time served.
Gucci can expect to spend the next two years in custody due to a drug and weapons bust from last year. The 34-year-old was "increasingly agitated" and threatened officers when he was arrested in the early hours of Sept. 14, 2013. A small amount of marijuana was found at the time, and Gucci was taken to a local hospital for observation.
Two days earlier, police had responded to a call at an office building where a 45-caliber handgun and eight rounds of ammunition were uncovered in a bag belonging to Gucci. Although he never pulled out the weapon, he was reportedly threatening people inside the building, which houses his lawyer Drew Findlings' office.
"The indictment charges that on two separate occasions, this defendant, a convicted felon, threatened individuals, including the police and his attorney with a gun," U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in a news release regarding Gooch's indictment last year. "This is how people get hurt and we are committed to ensuring that convicted felons not have guns."
Gucci's previous felony dates back to 2005, when he was convicted of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana.
