1. Beyoncé Makes Music History Again
If you haven’t noticed, Beyoncé can do it all. The 32-Grammy Award winner achieved another career milestone by becoming the first Black woman to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Country Chart with her latest hit, “Texas Hold 'Em.”
Additionally, she is the first woman to have topped Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since the song charts in October 1958, joining Ray Charles, Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Beyoncé also teased the second installment of her RENAISSANCE trilogy, Act II, which is slated for release on March 29.
2. Scarface Announces ‘Behind The Desk Experience Tour’
After wowing the audience and viewers with his Tiny Desk Performance, legendary rapper Scarface will be heading on the road as the headliner of the “Behind the Desk Tour.” The Houston native will begin the tour on March 10 in Florida at the Hard Rock Stadium and ends on April 14 in Charlotte, NC at Superstarz CLT.
Presented by The Black Promoters Collective, stops across the US include San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia.
3. Baylor University Retires Brittney Griner’s Number
WNBA superstar Baylor retired Brittney Griner's No. 42 on Feb. 18 before the Lady Bears took the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. Ahead of the ceremony, Griner expressed her joy for being honored by her alma mater.
"I'm honored to return home to Baylor and celebrate where so much of my journey started," Griner said. "I'm grateful to Coach Nicki [Collen] and the entire Baylor community and looking forward to the opportunity to be back on campus, spend time with the team, and have my family beside me to share in this incredible moment. Sic 'Em Bears."
The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Raiders 61-32.
4. Frankie Beverly Announces Farewell Tour
After being the frontman of Maze for more than 50, iconic frontman Frankie Beverly will be retiring this year. The legendary band announced the “I Wanna Thank You Farewell Tour.” The last tour commences in Atlanta at the State Farm Arena, with the final show in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum on May 12.
Beverly will also return to his hometown of Philadelphia, where a street will be renamed in his honor. In a statement, the “Before I Let Go” crooner shared his appreciation for his loyal fans.
“I want to share with my lifelong fans and associates that I’ll be going out on the road one last time, then retire. Thank you so much for the support given to me for over 50 years as I pass on the lead vocalist torch to Tony Lindsay,” Beverly said. “The band will continue on as "Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly." It’s been a great ride through the decades. Let the music of my legacy continue.”
5. Megan Thee Stallion Partners With Nike On Activewear Line
“Hot Girl” Meg is standing on business.
Nike has partnered with Meg Thee Stallion on the "Hot Girl Systems" collection.
Leading up to the collection's release, she took to Instagram to share the exciting news.
“Stepping on necks in these Nike By Yous. Hotties, customize a pair of Air Max 97s with three different packs inspired by Hot Girl Meg, Tina Snow, and Suga. Designed by me, customized by you. Download the @nike app to create your perfect pair,” Meg wrote in the caption.
The new collection was officially released on Feb.20.
6. Tyler the Creator Launches Capsule Collection With Louis Vuitton
Tyler the Creator is about to take the fashion world by storm.
On Wednesday (Feb. 21), the rapper shared on Instagram to announce his new collaboration with Louis Vuitton, where Pharrell Williams serves as the men's creative director and brought him into the fold.
"thank you @pharrell i love you, you keep throwing me the keys," Tyler said in the caption of a post on the app. "The @louisvuitton team thank yall for allowing these ideas come to life." He also thanked Darren Vongphakdy, Tara Razavi, and photographer Luis "Panch" Perez.
The collection is set to drop on March 21.
7. The Roots Announce Star-Studded Lineup For “The Roots Picnic”
The Roots Picnic is one of the most anticipated festivals of the year and the latest installment year will be no different. 2004 has an amazing lineup shared on the group’s Instagram page.
