Erykah Badu To Headline Summer Spirit Festival
For the 15-year anniversary of the Summer Spirit Festival, Erykah Badu has been announced as the headliner.
The Neo-soul, Hip-hop festival is going down on August 7 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
Joining Badu on the bill are Anthony Hamilton, Method Man & Redman, Marsha Ambrosius, J. Brown, and Washington D.C.-based go-band Junkyard Band.
In summer 2018, Badu headlined the festival, with performances by Method Man and Redman, according to Soul Bounce. Adjacent to multiple other public events, the festival was forced to take a hiatus due to the impact of the pandemic.
“Save the date, free your mind & find your way,” festival organizers wrote on Instagram. “Our 15th anniversary Summer Spirit get down featuring our Queen.”
Badu, 51, recently responded to backlash over her Smokin Grooves Festival set, where she headlined but had her set cut short due to time constraints.
She posted a photo on Instagram, stating that Questlove told her, “told me the headliner spot at a huge 1 day concert festival is the worst slot. Because when curfew comes & you aren’t even 1/2 way thru the set … they will cut the mike . When things run behind that night , The headliner has to take the weight. But still. I give my all. Love you guys . Grateful.”
Hopefully, a curfew won’t be an issue at the Summer Spirit Festival in August.
Tickets go on sale on Friday (April 8), at 10 a.m. ET via Ticketmaster.
