People Are Criticizing Alicia Keys's Makeup-Free Movement, and Swizz Beatz Ain't Having It
You would think most people would support a female celebrity who’s brave enough to not wear any makeup to an awards show. But, the internet is savage, so conventional wisdom is naive to say the least.
Alicia Keys was makeup-less for Sunday’s (August 28) MTV Video Music Awards and social media weighed in. Some were in solidarity with the singer’s actions and others weren’t. One Twitter user remarked, “Alicia Keys and the ‘no makeup movement’ is annoying and imaginary.”
Well, now Swizz Beatz is coming to his wife’s defense. The Grammy-winning producer took to Instagram and went on a little tirade about people being so concerned about other people not wearing makeup.
“Somebody sitting home mad because somebody didn’t wear makeup on their face,” he said in a video next to a caption partially reading “this is deep.” “Not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup. But you mad because that person didn’t put on makeup to please you? Type of sh*t is this? Cause you can do whatever you wanna do. She didn’t tell y’all don’t wear no makeup. She just said that she’s not vibin’ with the makeup all the way 100 percent like that. That’s kinda her thing that she wanna do.”
Preach, Swizz!
The whole no-makeup thing for Alicia Keys began in May when she penned a piece for Lenny Letter explaining why she didn’t want to “cover up anymore.” It’s also a movement to have young women focus on their inner beauty rather than obsessing with physical perfection.
