Jason Weaver: Stop Celebrating Lil Boosie's Prison Release
Lil Boosie's prison release is not that exciting to actor/singer Jason Weaver, who blasted the general public for celebrating the Louisiana rapper's return.
Weaver wrote out his feelings on Instagram Thursday (March 6). "Ok so.... I see a lot ppl on IG posting stuff about Lil Boosie gettin out of prison, talmbout [sic] 'Welcome Home' 'Boosie Back' and all kinds of other coon s--t. The problem I have with the IG posts regarding him gettin out is it's being displayed like it's some kind of thing to celebrate. I'm sorry man, but why can't we celebrate young black men who have stayed OUT of prison?"
Question aside, Weaver made clear he is not disparaging any one person — namely Boosie — he would just rather encourage the masses. "I'm not judging Boosie or any other individual who may have faced similar circumstances. It would sure be cool though if we posted more pics of our young brothas receiving high school diplomas, college degrees, and cool s--t like that instead of a playa gettin out of prison mane. I'm about celebrating milestones in young black men's lives that we can REALLY be proud of!"
The ATL star may have anticipated backlash from the Free Boosie army because he ends the social media shaming with "sorry." The reception, however, was mostly positive responses mixed with just a few bad comments. One person called Weaver an "old a-- n---a" in need of "money… and some clout," another warned the 34-year-old of the "unnecessary attention" brought on by the post, adding "Let people cele[brate] whoever they want to celebrate bro. What's [it] to you?" Others praised his effort with comments like, "well said," "I don't think you're hating at all" and "everything Jason said in this post is true!"
Boosie was released from the Louisiana State Penitentiary Wednesday, after serving time for smuggling drugs into prison.
He hasn't responded to Weaver. Rather, the newly freed 31-year-old father has been busy shopping, rapping and spending time with his children.
