Rakim Challenges Big Daddy Kane To Verzuz Battle In The Name Of Hip Hop
As fans anxiously await the announcement for the next Verzuz battle, legendary hip-hop pioneer Rakim proposed a potential match-up between him and Big Daddy Kane.
The native New Yorker took to Instagram on Sunday (August 9) where he shared a mock-up banner of himself and the former Juice Crew frontman, simply captioned, “Do it for Hip-Hop???”
He later deleted the post but Big Daddy Kane seemingly responded with a cryptic message of his own on the social platform shortly after. The Grammy-winning rapper posted a meme of Kermit the Frog sipping tea with the caption, “no caption needed!”
Thus far, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, who have been busy teasing a prospective match between Drake and Kanye West, have yet to respond to Rakim’s proposition.
Though Verzuz has yet to feature any of hip-hop’s original trailblazers, the Verzuz bout between RZA’s and DJ Premier back in March is the closest the virtual battle series has gotten with celebrating the golden age of rap. Subsequent installments have showcased some of the culture’s greatest musical architects such as Teddy Riley vs. Babyface, Johnta Austin vs. Ne-Yo, and Erykah Badu vs. Jill Scott, the latter of which is still the woman-only match.
As the Verzuz platform continues to reach new heights, a battle between two of hip-hop’s most legendary emcees would be a can’t-miss event.
