Kodak Black Claims Pills Found During Arrest Were Prescribed For Pain After Shooting
Over July 15, Kodak Black was arrested in Florida on Friday (July 15) and booked into a Broward County jail on two felony drug charges: possession of a controlled substance without prescription and trafficking oxycodone. However, his lawyers are insisting the oxycodone pills he was in possession of were prescribed.
According to TMZ, his attorney, Bradford Cohen, said the rapper suffers with chronic pain due to being shot in Los Angeles as well as the long-term injuries he suffered while incarcerated. The lawyer also claims he gave proof to prosecutors that the pills were legally prescribed.
Cops say after pulling the 25-year-old rapper over, they smelled marijuana. The strong marijuana odor led to a search of the Dodge Durango SUV, where police claim they found 31 oxycodone pills and $74,960 in cash.
"Never judge a case based on an arrest," Cohen said after Kodak posted bond, according to HotNewHipHop. "There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We negotiated a bond of $75,000 and we will move forward with resolving the matter quickly."
TMZ reports that Kodak’s license and tags were also expired.
Early last year, Kodak’s 46-month prison sentence for falsifying data on federal forms to purchase firearms was commuted by then-President Donald Trump.
