Racist Viral Video Of White Sorority Girl Saying 'I Don’t Care If It’s Martin Luther King Day N****r' Sparks Outrage And Investigation
Officials at the University of Alabama have opened an investigation into a student for posting several racist videos to Instagram on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The student, identified as Alpha Phi sorority member Harley Barber, is originally from New Jersey, according to her videos. Two videos from Harley's “Finstagram” (fake Instagram) were recorded and posted to Twitter by user @TabisBack.
In the first video, Harley says she 'f**king hates n*****s'
Harley approaches a sink with a running faucet and turns it off.
“We don’t waste water because of people in Syria," Harley begins.
“I love how I act like I love black people because I f**king hate n*****s, so that’s really interesting. I f**king hate n*****s but I just saved the f**king n*****s by shutting that water off.”
After receiving backlash for her language, Harley posted another video where she doubles down on her use of the racial slur
"I’ve wanted to be an Alpha Phi since I was f**king in high school and nobody f*****g understands how much I love Alpha Phi. And now someone wants to say I’m offensive because I said “n****r”? You know what? N****r, n****r, n****r. I don’t care if it’s Martin Luther King Day. N****r, n****r, n****r. I’m in the South now, bitch. So everyone can f**k off. I’m from New Jersey, so I can say “n****r” as much as I want. N****r, n****r, n****r. And if anyone else wants to f**king snake me on my f**king Finsta for saying n****r?" Harley says in the video as other women in the car cheer her on.
After several people tagged the university of alabama in the post, the college said they are looking into the troubling allegations
Linda Kahangi, executive director of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, released this statement to AL.com on Tuesday:
"Alpha Phi is a diverse, values-based organization and condemns the language and opinions in these videos. They are offensive and hateful to both our own members and to other members of the Greek and campus community. The Beta Mu chapter leadership and supporting alumnae moved quickly to address the offense, and Ms. Barber is no longer a member of Alpha Phi."
