Lupe Fiasco Fears FBG Duck’s Murder Will Lead To More Deaths In Chicago
Chicago-born Lupe Fiasco has come forward with a message for drill rap fans in the wake of the murder of his fellow Windy City native FBG Duck.
The Grammy-winning rapper was on Instagram Live earlier this week when he learned of Duck’s passing. Though Lupe had never personally met Duck, he fears that the up-and-coming drill rapper’s death will lead to a spree of deaths across Chi-Town out of vengenace.
“I hope that’s not the case, but I mean, this is what it is in the city,” he acknowledged. “The issue is that you wanna listen to ’em, at least for me, and vibe with what they sayin’ but so much of their music is about killing people [and] bragging about actual murders.”
Lupe continued, “You can’t really go 100 percent in with them. You can't ride down the street bumping their music ’cause you go through the wrong neighborhood and they talkin’ about killing BDs and they talkin’ about killing GDs and it’s just like, ‘Damn, man. I don’t think people understand that.”
Lupe went on to implore fans of drill rap to be more critical of the music they're consuming instead of simply taking it as face-value entertainment, whether it's music from Los Angeles, New York, or the U.K..
“It’s not cool because it can’t be fully entertainment ’cause these dudes talking about real life s**t and then it comes back to them,” he said. “The same dude you was partying to, listening to or giving props to is dead. This is f***ed up. To be honest, I don’t see any end to it.”
Instead, he felt they need to be more proactive in dissuading rappers from invoking violence through their musical platforms.
“You partying, bigging all this s**t up like, ‘Oh we just fans, we just wanna vibe to music’ but not realizing, really taking serious what some of these n***as are saying. Then these same people you partying to, now they're dead and then it becomes ‘Rest in peace. It’s entertainment and s**t,’” he criticized. “No man, you should have been warning [dudes] or protecting [dudes] or reaching out to[dudes] like hey man, why don’t you stop talking about murdering [dudes] in your records, you know?”
On Tuesday (August 4), Chicago Deputy Chief Daniel O’Shea confirmed that FBG Duck, born Carlton Weekly, was killed after a drive-by shooting that occurred in an upscale retail shopping district near the Gold Coast neighborhood in broad daylight, according to the Chicago Sun Times. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, suffering gunshot wounds to his chest, groin and neck, where the 26-year-old was pronounced dead.
At press time, police haven’t made any arrests in connection to the drive-by.
