Dionne Warwick Jokingly Steps Down as Twitter CEO
Just two months after she jokingly took on the role as CEO of Twitter, musical icon Dionne Warwick has resigned, citing “too much going on here” since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform.
Earlier this week, the “Heartbreaker” singer took to Twitter to make an important announcement. Quoting her initial post, Warwick stated, “I am resigning from this position. They’ve got too much going on here.”
Fans joined in on the antic, including one supporter who wrote, “That was quick.” Another person commented, “You stayed much longer than I expected. Enjoy retirement” while others suggested she get her severance package “before they broke broke.”
Warwick’s “exit” appeared to be triggered by a series of changes going on at Twitter since Musk took over last October including paid subscriptions limits on posts you could view. The singer joined the app in 2012 but became a staple on the platform over the last five years.
In December 2020, the “Walk On By” singer went viral after tweeting Chance the Rapper and The Weeknd about their stage names. "Hi, @chancetherapper. If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this,” she wrote at the time. Moments later, Warwick went after the Canadian singer with, "The Weeknd is next. Why? It's not even spelled correctly? @theweeknd."
