Beyoncé Reveals She Weighed 218 Pounds A Year Ago And That She Never "Snapped Back"
No celebrity has ever had complete creative control over an issue of Vogue, and it’s a rare occurrence when Beyoncé gets candid about, well, anything. So it's like Christmas came early this year, because Bey has taken over the August issue of the mag (which is rumored to be EIC Anna Wintour’s last issue). Not only are we living for the naturally gorgeous and undone photos of Queen Bey shot by 23-year-old Black photographer Tyler Mitchell, who is the first Black photographer to shoot the cover, but we are also here for her thoughts on the celebrity “snapback” after giving birth the second time around.
Before revealing that she in fact weighed 218 pounds the day she gave birth to twins Rumi and Sir Carter and was suffering from toxemia, which is common in pregnancies and results in severe swelling, she shared this revelation:
“After the birth of my first child, I believed in the things society said about how my body should look. I put pressure on myself to lose all the baby weight in three months, and scheduled a small tour to assure I would do it. Looking back, that was crazy. I was still breastfeeding when I performed the Revel shows in Atlantic City in 2012. After the twins, I approached things very differently.”
She continued with how her delivery with the twins resulted in complications that required her to have an emergency C-section and spend weeks in the NICU. She added that throughout all of this Jay-Z was a “soldier” in every aspect possible. Bey was obviously more concerned with her family than snapping back into tour-ready shape pronto, as she should be, making this a very rare and related Beyoncé moment.
If you’re not part of the Beehive or follow her moves like most of the world at this point, Beyoncé has become the quintessential woman, the role model or blue print that many other women use as inspiration to achieve their own life goals. She can do it all, in a flawless and mystifying fashion—music superstar, model mom, rock star wife, a champion of feminism, #BlackLivesMatter and a zillion other causes, and let’s not forget being friends with the Obamas. She’s basically our real-life Wonder Woman, so it’s endearing to see her be real and slightly vulnerable about her mom bod, which, let’s face it, has also already become goals. #Thickyoncé
Beyoncé expressed that she’s found acceptance in her new body. However, six months postpartum with time ticking until her epic Coachella performance back in April, she started a regimen of temporary veganism and cut out coffee, alcohol and fruit drinks. She also admitted that she’s enjoying her “fuller curves” as well as the kids and husband. She left us with this:
“To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller. I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real. Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my ass off until I have it. But right now, my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be.”
Long live the FUPA!
