The NBA legend is "devastated" and his "heart goes out to everyone suffering."

Charlotte Hornets owner and NBA legend Michael Jordan is donating $1 million to help with the relief efforts in the Bahamas after the ravages of Hurricane Dorian.

Jordan, a frequent visitor and property owner on the island, issued a statement through his management stating his desire to help.

"I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and those who have lost loved ones."

The statement goes on to say that Jordan will monitor the situation in the Bahamas closely and work to identify which non-profit organizations will allow his donation to have the greatest impact.

Jordan also added:

"The Bahamian people are strong and resilient and I hope that my donation will be of help as they work to recover from this catastrophic storm."
