White House Site Helps Voters Send a Message on Gun Control
It's one thing for President Obama to say that 90 percent of Americans agree with him on gun control and another for Congress to see firsthand evidence. So, the White House has launched a new social media website where people can sign up to tweet or share a message on Facebook demanding that lawmakers take a stand.
The goal is to get millions of Americans to simultaneously let Congress know they share the president's desire for it to do the right thing and quickly pass legislation to reduce gun violence in the U.S.
"We want to make sure that your voices are impossible to ignore. So we're asking people from all over the country to speak out online in concert – all at the same time," wrote deputy senior adviser David Simas in a letter to supporters. "Let's make sure there's absolutely no confusion about the public consensus."
And, after having their say, he adds, users should share the site with family and friends so they, too, can have a voice.
