Meet the Latest Crazy Criminal Teen Out of Florida: Dr. Even Stranger Love
In the latest installment of WTFlorida, we have a story out of West Palm Beach that's so unbelievable it reads more like a plot line from Grey's Anatomy.
Eighteen-year-old Malachi Love-Robinson was arrested on Tuesday night for pretending to be a doctor and running his own unlicensed medical clinic. Love-Robinson, or "Dr. Love" as he's known around those parts, was finally caught when he gave a medical exam to an undercover cop.
According to local news station WBPF, the teenager had been pretending to be "Dr. Malachi Love-Robinson, PHD, HHP-C, AMP-C" co-founder, president and CEO of New Birth New Life Holistic and Alternative Medical Center & Urgent Care center in West Palm Beach. He claimed to be 25 years old. After his arrest, Dr. Love was charged with a third-degree felony for practicing medicine without a license and was issued several citations by the Department of Health.
But wait: this isn't the first time Dr. Love was caught playing doctor. Last year, when he was 17, he was caught posing as a gynecologist in a pregnant woman's exam room at St. Mary's Medical Center Campus in West Palm Beach. Police said at the time that he had been roaming the halls for more than a month, but that he hadn't committed a crime.
The way he got access to St. Mary's doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the hospital's security measures.
Dr. Sebastian Kent, an OB/GYN on the St. Mary's Medical Center campus, told the Sun Sentinel that Love-Robinson talked his way into the confidence of the real doctors.
"This guy can schmooze his way around, he can tell any story you want to hear," Kent said. "That's what he tried to do with me — he tried to ingratiate himself with me so I would take him around, and after a while it started to not make sense to me. I thought something was wrong."
"I'm hurt because of all of these allegations," Love-Robinson told WPBF as police put him in cuffs. "This is not the first time I have been accused, and I will pursue this."
He added, "All these are accusations and I will have my lawyer contact you," he said. Love-Robinson posted bail early Wednesday morning.
So, is this kid a precocious Doogie Howser wannabe or just a sociopath? With a trial date pending, his motive should be clear soon enough.
