Zendaya Says Kesha's Strength Is 'Empowering'
Lots of female musicians have come forward sharing their support of Kesha, who is currently wrapped up in a legal battle with her Sony label and producer Dr. Luke. With the list of public supporters ranging from Lady Gaga to Adele, the latest to come forward vocally expressing her admiration for the "TiK ToK" singer is Zendaya.
"My heart goes out [to Kesha]," she told Billboard. "It's heartbreaking and I couldn't ever imagine going through something like that."
Zendaya, who is the newest face of the CoverGirl brand, admits though she cannot directly relate to Kesha's current situation, she believes it introduces a unique opporunity to empower other women.
"Fortunately, it's never happened to me, but I'm glad the conversation is happening and that a light is being shown on the issue that she's having," she said. "It's beautiful to see all this love, all these people surrounding her and blanketing her with kindness, love and support. I think that's what we need to do, 'cause I don't even know how to speak on it."
She continued, saying it is a learning experience that she and other women can benefit from: "It sounds so terrible, but it's not something that I can truly speak on 'cause I can't explain that to anybody," she said. "I'm just here to be a person of support and direct attention toward it. It's all honestly about shedding light on the issue. Hopefully, she gets everything out of it that she needs to and is able to, in a sense, recover and bring so much empowerment to women at the same time — that's what she's doing."
