Lupe Fiasco Named Music Director for U.S. Soccer World Cup Campaign
Score one for Lupe Fiasco. U.S. Soccer has named the Chicago native music director for the Men's National Team's 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Fiasco, 32, will collaborate with U.S. Soccer during the Send-Off series and World Cup series. In expounding upon U.S. Soccer's "One Nation. One Team" theme, Fiasco's duties include handling the in-game music programming for the Send-Off series and creating Spotify playlists with the help of his DJ crew, SNDCLSH.
He will also attend Fan Appreciation Day in New York City's Time Square May 30, followed by a Windy City show at the U.S. Soccer Fan Fest leading up to USA's match against Ghana on June 16.
Additionally, U.S. Soccer will help promote Fiasco's new single, "Mission," during the Send-Off series. The track, released Monday (May 19), is inspired by the fight against cancer.
In addition to Fiasco, New York-born graffiti artist Futura has been named art director for the team's World Cup campaign.
