Amandla Stenberg Responds to Racist Tweets Over The Hunger Games

The young actress thanks true fans for support and loyalty.

Some fans of The Hunger Games series might have been outraged by the movie's portrayal of two characters as Black (even though they were also of color in the book), but Amandla Stenberg is not letting the racist comments get to her. Ignorant tweets about the 13-year-old, who plays the smallest tribute, Rue, and co-star Dayo Okeniyi appeared on Twitter soon after the movie's smash opening this past weekend, complaining that the casting made them care less about Rue's fate in the story.
"As a fan of the books, I feel fortunate to be part of The Hunger Games family," she told Us Weekly in a statement. "It was an amazing experience. I am proud of the film and my performance. I want to thank all of my fans and the entire Hunger Games community for their support and loyalty."
