A$AP Rocky Donates Meals To Homeless Shelter Where He And His Mother Once Stayed

The rapper and his mom lived there during the early 2000s.

On the eve of Thanksgiving (November 25), A$AP Rocky spent his time generously donating 120 meals to a New York City homeless shelter where he and his mother, Renee Black, once lived during the early 2000s.

TMZ reports the Harlem rapper personally delivered the meals from Amy Ruth’s Restaurant to the Regent Family Residence, which is on the Upper West Side in New York City. The shelter currently serves over 80 families.

A photograph obtained by TMZ shows Rocky next to his mother and them both wearing masks. The outlet claims that because the shelter housed them years ago, it was their location of choice to spread some joy during the holidays.

During a 2013 interview with MTV, Rocky opened up about being in a homeless shelter only, “There was a lot of hard times in this place, but it’s not the end of the world because life is what you make it. ‘[There’s] people out there who got it better but this is a place that helps women get on their feet — with government assistance and before you know it, things are alright.”

A$AP Rocky and his mother’s generosity comes as the homelessness rate in New York and across America is spiking due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to a Columbia University report, the homelessness rate in the United States could grow by 45 percent by the end of 2020.
